Our Mission at McGaw.io is to help companies of all sizes realize their customer data is their most valuable business asset, and we help them realize that through customer data infrastructure, high power analytics, marketing automation, personalization, and funnel optimization.
McGaw.io supports businesses with analytics, marketing automation, customer data platforms, data piping, websites, AB testing, and all sorts of marketing operations. As we derive insights from these technical efforts, we also inform & execute growth strategies that routinely move the needle for our clients.
Our track record is impeccable, and our leadership has supported some of the fastest-growing companies in the world. McGaw.io’s core client base sells online and has complex data and marketing practices that drive our team to dig deeper every day.
Mission
Own technical delivery across your accounts. Design the stack, build the hard parts, direct the technical team, and keep projects on schedule and profitable.
Why this role exists
Our clients are spread across North America and Europe, but our technical bench is not. European accounts wait a day for answers and North American accounts compete for the same people. This role adds senior technical capacity in a time zone that covers both.
Responsibilities
Architecture and design
- Design end-to-end customer data stacks: CDP, analytics, marketing automation, CRM, warehouse, pipelines, tag management, testing.
- Lead taxonomy design. Define events, properties, and naming before implementation, not after.
- Solve identity resolution across web, app, offline, and CRM.
- Write ecosystem docs that show where data moves and what breaks if it stops.
Hands-on build
- Build. This is not an advisory seat: you will be in the CDP, the warehouse, GTM, and the code.
- Write and review tracking, server-side integrations, and reverse ETL pipelines.
- Run QA to our two-person standard. Check every property in both the CDP and the destination, with a recorded walkthrough.
Directing the team
- Turn client requirements into scoped, sequenced tasks for engineers and contract developers.
- Review their work before it reaches a client. You are the quality gate.
- Unblock people. When a build stalls, you get it moving.
Keeping delivery on track
- Run the cadence: two-week sprints, a groomed backlog, and a roadmap with three or more months of planned work.
- Flag budget pacing early. Never surprise a client on budget.
- There are no free scope changes. Every change gets estimated, documented, and confirmed in writing before work starts.
New business
- Write technical specs for new opportunities. What gets built, in what order, and what it depends on.
- Produce level of effort estimates accurate enough that Sales can price without a rebuild.
- Join pre-sales calls when a prospect needs a technical answer in the room.
- Say when a prospect is not ready, and what would make them ready.
Skills and experience
Required
- Fully fluent in English. That is the company's working language.
- 6+ years designing and integrating marketing and customer data technology. At least 3 in an agency, consultancy, or professional services with multiple clients.
- Understand how CDPs drive marketing, with working knowledge of Segment, Hightouch, or RudderStack. No preference among them. Know one and you can learn the others.
- Proficient in JavaScript and SQL. Comfortable in a shared repo.
- Designed at least three full stacks, not just operated tools someone else picked.
- GDPR and consent handled as part of the build.
Systems
Depth in at least three groups, working familiarity with the rest:
- Customer data platforms: Segment, Hightouch, RudderStack
- Analytics: Amplitude, Mixpanel, GA4
- Lifecycle and marketing automation: Braze, Customer.io, HubSpot, Marketo, Iterable
- Warehouse and transformation: Snowflake, BigQuery, dbt
- Tag management: Google Tag Manager, server-side GTM
- CRM: Salesforce, HubSpot
- Consent management: OneTrust, Cookiebot, Didomi
Preferred
- Multilingual with professional working proficiency in English as well as German, French, Spanish, or Italian.
- Server-side tracking under EU consent rules.
- Work across both European and North American clients.
What you get out of this
- Many stacks in a year instead of one stack in five. Different industries, scale, and failure modes.
- The customer data layer is changing right now. Warehouse-native patterns, composable CDPs, and reverse ETL are replacing a decade of assumptions. You build on the new pattern.
- We work across the full client stack, not just individual systems or specific vendors. You see how it all fits together, which is where the hard problems are visible.
- Both European and North American markets from one seat.
Observable indicators
Month 2
- Onboarded to every tool in your accounts' stacks.
- Time tracked in Harvest weekly, without reminders.
- QA to the two-person standard on 100% of what you ship.
Month 4
- Running technical delivery on two or more accounts independently.
- Every account has three or more months of planned roadmap.
- Zero undocumented scope changes.
Month 6
- Labor efficiency ratio of 2.5 or better across your projects.
- 90% of client objectives hit within the project timeline.
- Client approval for a case study or testimonial on at least one account.
- New business specs and estimates accepted by Sales without rework 80% of the time.
Month 9
- Leading technical discovery without US support on the call.
- One expansion opportunity per quarter, surfaced with an estimate attached.
What this role is not
- Not account leadership. You will not own the relationship, the renewal, or the P&L.
- Not a sales seat. You write specs and estimates and are paid a bonus on the result. You do not prospect.
- Not people management. You direct technical work. No direct reports at hiring stage.
- Not advisory. If you want to stop building, this is the wrong role.
Values
- Never Settle, Be Amazing. Fix it properly, not just enough to close the ticket.
- Get Better Every Day. Ask for feedback and change what you do when you get it.
- Give Context and Set the Stage. Nobody on your project is surprised by what you already knew.
- Let the Data Create Transparency. Recommendations come with evidence. So does bad news.
- Show Hospitality to Build Trust. Clients and teammates get proactive, responsive treatment.
Plus extreme ownership. Own outcomes, surface blockers early, and never hand a problem back to the person who gave it to you.
Benefits
- Flexible PTO
- Flexible hours
- Work remotely
- Monthly per diem for premium health, dental, and vision coverage if not already available
- Maternity and paternity leave
- Retirement contribution of 3% of salary annually.
- Company laptop, monitor, and remote setup equipment
- Federal holidays off for US citizens, national holidays off for international contractors
- Radically transparent workplace
- Room to act on your own ideas
The job in practice
McGaw is a customer data and revenue operations consultancy. Clients come to us with traffic, tools, and data, and no system connecting them. We find where revenue leaks across acquisition, conversion, and retention, then we fix it with our hands on the keyboards.
The CDP is the center of most of our work. We build on Segment, Hightouch, and RudderStack, chosen per client. We work across the full client stack, not just individual systems or specific vendors.
Our clients are in North America and Europe. Your portfolio will be a mix.
Month 1. Learn our clients, cadence, and tooling. Shadow live accounts. Run QA on other people's work to see our standard from the inside. Start owning tasks on one account.
Months 2 and 3. Take technical ownership of your first accounts. Build the roadmaps. Run the sprints. You still have support on client calls.
Months 4 to 6. Run delivery independently across accounts. Direct the resources assigned to you. Start writing specs for new business.
After 6 months. You are a technical authority across the portfolio. You lead discovery, scope new work, and set the standard new hires learn from.
What is hard? Accounts run at the same time and the work is billable by the hour, so time tracking is not optional. A portfolio across two continents splits your day in half. You will sometimes be the only person awake when a pipeline breaks.
